This August has had its share of rainy days in New Mexico, but enjoy “Fun in the Sun” every Saturday this month at Santa Ana Star Casino.

Ten guests will be selected each week during the “Fun in the Sun” promotion. Nine will win free play prizes and one lucky patron will have the chance to win up to $250,000. Earn your entries now through Aug. 30 with every 1,000 points earned in slot play or one hour of table game play.

Every Monday it’s “Club 50+” at The Star. Guests ages 50 and older earn five times the points, get $5 off at the Feast Buffet and 50 guests will win $50 in free play. The promotion is valid all day on Mondays this month.

Crazy Legs Heads to Burque

It was the '90s, and comedian Chris “Crazy Legs” Fonseca was at the height of his career. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a youth, he uses a wheelchair—hence the nickname “Crazy Legs,” which is often the starting point of his comedy. With his dry humor and well-crafted one-liners, Fonseca “was on every sitcom in that decade,” he says… 

Now touring much more frequently, Fonseca brings his wit to The Stage Aug. 14 at Santa Ana Star Casino (54 Jemez Dam, Bernalillo). The 21+ show gets underway at 7:30pm. Cost is $10. Opening for Fonseca are John Mark Gard and Albuquerque’s own Keith Breckenridge.

Romero Awards for casino marketing announced

The Casino Marketing Conference, which was held in late July in Las Vegas, is among the fastest growing trade events in gaming. Its centerpiece is the Romero Awards, named after the famed industry author, John Romero, who started out at Del Webb’s Sahara in 1960 and has since distinguished himself as the world’s foremost authority on casino marketing and promotions.

This year’s winners were chosen from among 134 entries, which were submitted by casinos from the U.S. and Canada.

Lots of Slots: Promotions, That is; Also Car Giveaways and a Powwow

The casino will host “Bernalillo Day at The Star” on July 29 in appreciation of the town of Bernalillo. During the event, there will be hot-seat drawings from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Four winners will be drawn each hour. Winners will receive $25, but winners who show a valid ID showing they live in Bernalillo’s 87004 zip code, will double his or her prize.

Bernalillo residents in that zip code area also will receive a free burrito from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Mesa Grille, a commemorative water bottle and 15 percent off at Sadie’s at the Star. It’s just the casino’s way of saying thank you to all of its Bernalillo patrons.

Fresh Air Gambling is Now Available

Non-smokers who want to play the slots at the Santa Ana Star Casino no longer risk coming home smelling of cigarettes.

The casino on Santa Ana Pueblo land just west of the town of Bernalillo has created an enclosed smoke-free zone within the gaming facility that is equipped with its own air filtration system.

The 11,000-square-foot zone takes the place of the casino’s former non-smoking slot machine area. It is closed by a floor-to-ceiling glass paneling that completely separates it from the main gaming area, where smoking is allowed.

Smoke-free Zones: Find Them at Area Casinos, Including Santa Ana Star

Heading out to the casino most of the time means I will come home smelling like an ashtray even though I’m not a smoker. But, I have come to accept that smoking and gambling usually go hand-in-hand....

Now Santa Ana Star Casino is offering its own version, which caters to patrons who want to enjoy the gaming floor without the smoke.

The new area at Santa Ana Star Casino has its own independent air filtration system, which uses fresh air. The new smoke-free gaming area replaces the nonsmoking slot area. The new area is enclosed by modern floor-to-ceiling glass paneling.

Santa Ana Pueblo Unveils Changes to Casino’s Non-smoking Area

Santa Ana Pueblo in New Mexico has revamped the non-smoking area at its casino.

The 11,000 square-foot area at the Santa Ana Star Casino is now completely closed off from the smoking areas via floor-to-ceiling glass panels. There's also a new ventilation system, a separate entrance and a separate eatery.

Santa Ana Star Casino has taken new steps to prevent smoke from bothering some patrons by installing floor-to-ceiling glass panels around its non-smoking gaming area.
