Gallagher Brings the “Sledge-O-Matic” to The Stage

Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel, New Mexico's Best Bet, welcomes iconic prop comedian Gallagher to The Stage. He will perform two shows on Friday, March 9, and Saturday, March 10, beginning at 7 p.m.

Although he holds a degree in chemical engineering from the University of South Florida, Leo Gallagher is a bona fide entertainer who found his true calling in show business. He began developing his comedy routine in 1969 after serving as a road manager for comedian and musician Jim Stafford. Combining silly physical comedy with creative wordplay, Gallagher quickly established his unique brand of humor and became a regular performer at comedy hot spots including The Comedy Store and the Ice House. He became a household name with the introduction of his signature sketch—the "Sledge-O-Matic." Spoofing Ronco's ultra-popular Veg-O-Matic infomericals, Gallagher pitches the "Sledge-O-Matic"—a large, wooden mallet—and demonstrates its uses by smashing assorted fruits, vegetables and, most famously, watermelons. Throughout his career, Gallagher has filmed more than a dozen Showtime specials, which are replayed often on Comedy Central. He is also a poet and inventor who holds a U.S. patent for the "Bird on a Wire" slot machine.
