Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel, New Mexico's Best Bet, is teaming up with Unicor LLC to combat identity theft by hosting a free community shredding event. Guests are invited to bring paper documents to the casino on Saturday, April 28, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., where they will be securely destroyed and recycled.
"According to the 2017 Identity Fraud Study by Javelin Strategy & Research, there has been a 50 percent increase in the number of identity thefts over the past 10 years," said Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel Director of Marketing Tammy Neil. "With the threat of identity theft so prevalent, Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel is making it easier than ever for the people of our community to securely dispose of documents and prevent their personal information from falling into the wrong hands."
At Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel's community shredding event, Unicor LLC will be accepting up to two cardboard boxes or one standard trash bag of paper per person. All documents will be securely destroyed and then recycled. This is a free event open to all members of the community.
"We have to be proactive about protecting our personal information," said Neil. "It's our hope that this event will raise awareness about this issue and inspire the people of our community to take practical steps to reduce their risk of identity theft."
