The Stage Welcomes DJ Jazzy Jeff

Santa Ana Star Casino, New Mexico's Best Bet, welcomes legendary DJ and producer DJ Jazzy Jeff to The Stage on Saturday, Oct. 7. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Largely learning the art of spinning records in the basement of his parents' West Philadelphia home, DJ Jazzy Jeff made a name for himself in the neighborhood party scene by the age of 10. Over the next few years, he proved himself a master turntablist with an innovative approach to music production and a highly versatile sense of musicality. DJ Jazzy Jeff teamed up with Will Smith in the mid-'80s, forming the powerhouse duo "DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince." Together, the duo won the inaugural Grammy for "Best Rap Performance" for "Parents Just Don't Understand" in 1989 and a second Grammy in 1992 for "Summertime," which also peaked at No. 4 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Although DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith have continued to collaborate, DJ Jazzy Jeff has also become a trendsetting R&B, soul and neo soul producer. He established his own production company, A Touch of Jazz, and has worked with music artists including Eric Roberson, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Eminem, The Roots, Jewel, Darius Rucker, Talib Kweli, Rhymefest and many others. In addition to continuing to tour the globe, DJ Jazzy Jeff also documents his adventures both on and off the stage through the popular web series "Vinyl Destination."
